Remarks Widely distributed in hydrographic regions of the South America, inhabits sandy to muddy or with deposits of silt and clay, never found in gravel or rocky substrates. Also found in river with lower water velocities or in marginal lakes, where it finds food (phytoplankton) in abundnace (Refs. 126701, 126703).
