All species are bathypelagic and most likely inhabit bottom water layer (Ref. 1659). Uppermost depth limit of distribution is 1,000 m deep. Morphological characters: (1) no transverse musculature is present in both the trunk and tail regions; (2) there is a single pair of lateral fins or gelatinous structures replacing the latter; (3) the setae are evenly curved, without showing a sharp bend, the denticles, if present, are not arranged into a bundle (like in Krohnittidae); (4) no digestive diverticula are present on the midgut (Ref. 1658). |
