Short description Morphology

Colonies are generally massive but are often encrusting. They are usually small but may be several meters across. The surface usually lumpy, sometimes smooth and nodular. Tentacles are commonly extended during the day. They are usually bright yellow to dark grey brown in color, sometimes green.

Zooxanthellate (Ref. 116012). Reef flat (Ref. 811). In Belize, it was found in a submarine cave near Columbus Cay at a depth of 10 m (Ref. 87209).

Life cycle and mating behavior Maturity | Reproduction | Spawning | Eggs | Fecundity | Larvae

Hermaphroditic (Ref. 113712). Mature gametes are shed into the coelenteron and spawned through the mouth. Life cycle: The zygote develops into a planktonic planula larva. Metamorphosis begins with early morphogenesis of tentacles, septa and pharynx before larval settlement on the aboral end (Ref. 833).
