Distribution: Western Atlantic and South America Inland Waters: Pteronura brasiliensis brasiliensis: Northern South America from Venezuela and the Guyanas south to Alagoas, Brazil; Pteronura brasiliensis paranensis: Drainages of the Río Paraná and the Río Uruguay in Paraguay, southern Brazil, northeast Argentina, and Uruguay (Ref. 1522).
