Massive globular buried under the sand with projecting cylindrical fistules that have smooth ends, or pagoda-shaped projections; 2 - 4 cm wide; 0.1 cm thick. Dirty-white to cream in color (Ref. 415).
In Bocas del Torro, Panama the species is on seagrass beds; 1 to 3 m deep. The species reported from 50 to 100 deep (Ref. 415). Small and cryptic, partly buried in sediment (Ref. 086786).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
