Comments The first observation of Macrobrachium nipponense was in Anzali Lagoon in 2008, and has since spread in water basins of norhtern Iran. Though it is important in aquaculture, M. nipponense has competed with native freshwater crayfish for space and food, causing deteriorated local stocks.
