Comments |
It was first reported in R ío de la Plata Basin in the 1990s. Reports of Rapana venosa in Maldonado Bay started in 2004 and were later confirmed in 2009. In Maldonado Bay, R. venosa preys on the native mussels Mytilus edulis and Brachidontes spp., which has caused a severe depletion on mussel beds being harvested by local fishermen. Ref.
