Contact to this species may cause dermatitis (Ref. 87801). This species is found on rock walls at depths of 10 to 1,080 m. It is often used as a substrate of other species such as tunicates of cnidarians. It can tolerate stress through fine sediments (Ref. 87801).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
