Contact to this species may causes dermatitis (Ref. 87801). This species is found on rocky substrates at depths of 10 to 31 m. It is sometimes associated with Desmophyllum dianthus and bryozoans (Ref. 87801).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
