Has a wide variety of shell form and color, from narrow and dark brown to wide and yellow (Ref. 125512).

Found intertidal on rocks and sand (Ref. 53). Also found attached on pier pilings, rocks, and boulders (Ref. 75840). On exposed rocky shores, amongst Mytilisepta virgata beds (Ref. 126136).

Members of the class Bivalvia are mostly gonochoric, some are protandric hermaphrodites. Life cycle: Embryos develop into free-swimming trocophore larvae, succeeded by the bivalve veliger, resembling a miniature clam.
